Verizon to charge $2 single bill payment fee beginning next month

Verizon Wireless will begin to roll out a new convenience fee on January 15th which will add an additional $2.00 fee to customers who make single bill payments online or by telephone. Verizon claims the fee will allow the company to continue to support these payment options, however the fee is waived for those who pay by electronic check or enroll in Verizon’s AutoPay service. Additionally, customers who pay their bills in the store, online through a bank, or physically mail a check to Verizon will be not be charged the new fee. The telephone and online single payment fee will be disclosed up-front and throughout the transaction, Verizon said.

Verizon today announced that on Dec. 15 (that’d be tomorrow) it’s adding the following cities to its 4G LTE roster:

Dover, Del.
Lafayette, Ind.
Fitchburg/Leominster, Mass.
Duluth, The Rochester Area and St. Cloud, Minn.
Manchester/Nashua, N.H.
Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Findlay/Tiffin and Youngstown/Warren, Ohio
Indiana, Pa.

Verizon also announced 4G LTE expansions in San Diego and San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; Savannah, Ga.; Chicagoland, Ill.; and Baltimore and Hagerstown, Md.

AT&T ranks worst in Consumer Reports carrier satisfaction survey for second straight year

AT&T has again received the lowest rating in Consumer Reports’ annual wireless carrier customer satisfaction survey. Verizon Wireless won the top spot and its customers were most satisfied with its data service and staff knowledge. Verizon was followed by Sprint and T-Mobile USA. “Our survey indicates that subscribers to prepaid and smaller standard-service providers are happiest overall with their cell-phone service,” Consumer Reports electronics editor Paul Reynolds said. “However, these carriers aren’t for everyone. Some are only regional, and prepaid carriers tend to offer few or no smart phones. The major carriers are still leading options for many consumers, and we found they ranged widely in how well they satisfied their customers.” Consumer Reports surveyed 66,000 of its subscribers and included standard and no-contract wireless customers across 22 metropolitan areas. The full report is in the January 2012 issue and is available to subscribers online.

Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus likely priced at $199.99

While Verizon Wireless has yet to announce any release details surrounding the latest Nexus smartphone, a series of leaks seemingly paint a complete picture of the carrier’s launch plans. A purported internal document revealed on Wednesday points to a December 8th release for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and now a leaked Verizon Wireless advertisement lists the handset’s on-contract price as $199.99. The Galaxy Nexus had previously been rumored to launch with a price tag closer to $300, so it is unclear if the pricing in the Verizon ad is standard or part of a holiday promotion. Verizon is expected to announce release details for the Galaxy Nexus some time next week.

Verizon introduces Mobile UC enterprise client at CTIA

Verizon has focused heavily on connecting Enterprise-ready software with your smartphone at this year’s CTIA conference, and yesterday it announced its next step. The Mobile Unified Communicaitons Client (Mobile UC), availble on the Droids X, X2, 2 and 2 Global, and the Pro. Verizon says that more manufacturers and models will be compatable soon.

Mobile UC is designed to connect your personal and business numbers and make both simultanesouly available on your personal smartphone. Business calls will direct to your device when it is in business profile, and personal calls will be available when the business profile is turned off. Everything is Enterprise ready, with business calls (inward and outward) routing through your existing IP PBX system. And yes, when placing calls from your business line, caller IDs on the receiving end will display your business number.

When you’re not on the move, Verizon is offering a Mobile UC docking station for your office: plug your smartphone in and calls you place will be routed through your business number and ethernet, without using personal minutes or data. Mobile UC is compatable with most Cisco and Avaya telephone systems, and set up must be done through your IT department. Once configured, you can download the app through Verizon’s VCast. Verizon wants to monitor your web habits, if this bothers you — opt out

Priacy policies. A touchy subject for some and if you’re a Verizon customer who is concerned with such things you’ll want to make sure you’re up-to-date on some new privacy policy changes happening.

Verizon has updated some of their terms this week and those updates, now state that Verizon will use your info for “certain business and marketing reports” and for “making mobile ads you see more relevant.” In other words, Verizon will be tracking URLs of websites you visit and also your device’s location data while sharing it with outside companies. Doesn’t sound all that great does it?

Verizon does however offer you the option to opt out if you visit their privacy policy page and make some changes. The page has two different places where you can check “Don’t use my information” for any or all of your Verizon cell numbers.

Having the option to opt out is great! Having been opted in by default — not so great. If you’re not down with Verizon doing this, then make sure you opt out as soon as possible.

Samsung Stratosphere specs surface, check out how it compares to the competition

We have seen the Samsung Stratosphere appear in a couple different places yet we have still not seen full specs to gain an understanding of where the device falls in Verizon’s lineup. DroidLife has got their hands on some spec sheets which detail the specs of the device as well as compare it to other Android devices available on Verizon currently. In addition to comparing to Verizon devices the documents show comparisons to other slider devices across various other carriers, giving you a pretty good understanding of where the device falls. Verizon lists the “bottom line” as:

Appeals to anyone looking for a mid-tier option at an affordable price with fast web browsing and messaging capabilities.

Knowing it is a mid-tier device, we could anticipate the pricing to be in the $149 price range on contract, ultimately giving you a pretty good bang for the buck. LG Revolution launching May 26?

The LG Revolution may be hitting shelves on May 26. Photos of the Best Buy listing for the device have surfaced, followed by inventory information that has the “in-stock” of May 25. Verizon has a history of launching phones on a Thursday — and we’ll see the Xperia Play and possibly the Droid X2 on May 26 — so this is entirely possible.

Again, nothing is official until Verizon announces it –and we’ve seen supposed launch dates come and go all sprint — so keep that in mind.

If you’ve been waiting patiently for the LG Revolution, which will be a 4G LTE device, your wait may come to an end next week.

Blurry Droid X2 dummy units have arrived at Costco

Most recently we caught up with the Motorola Droid X2 in a video where it was shown off and subsequently benchmarked. Here we are now — a couple of weeks later and the dummy units have started to arrive at Costco locations. Yes, it still looks like a Droid X and no, Verizon hasn’t announced it as of yet but dummy units arriving at retail locations is a pretty darn good sign we’re close to going all official like here.
