
Ah, the unboxing. All that pomp and circumstance to tell you that inside most smartphone boxes you’ll find a charger, USB cable, manual, some leagalese, maybe a SD card adapter, some earbuds if you’re really lucky — standard fare. Yawn.

It appears that Verizon and AT&T are serious about not wanting you to use your current data plan for tethering, as they have blocked access to popular applications that enable it on the Android Market. There’s a bit of conflicting information out there, as a few other sites have reported that all carriers, or that other carriers have done the same. We’ve found that T-Mobile and Sprint haven’t blocked them, but Verizon and AT&T have, as shown in the image above.

With its 2011 Xperia lineup, Sony Ericsson is looking to retain its position as one of the major players in the Android ecosystem. While last year’s (depending on your locale) Xperia X8 and X10 sold well, they were criticized by some for shipping with an outdated version of Android, as well as a variety of software issues.

Sometimes you just have to have that desktop experience. I use a laptop for my everyday computer. But when I can, I use it in the more traditional sense — with a full keyboard and mouse — plus a nice, big second monitor. And that’s another feature that we’re loving in the ASUS EeePad Transformer — proper USB support.
