Samsung has given in sneak preview into some of its devices that will receive updates to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2012. They are:

It’s been a while since we have seen a Froyo-powered device launch, but that doesn’t mean that we should immediately write it off by any means. Samsung has brought the DoubleTime to the table with a new form factor, and for its intended purpose it does quite well. With the flip up QWERTY keyboard it is rather easy to tell that this device is aimed towards those who will be using it for heavy messaging, likely the teen crowd. Sure, most devices are launching with Gingerbread, and now we are starting to see Ice Cream Sandwich devices rolling out, but the Samsung DoubleTime performs quite well with Froyo.
Apple’s iPhone accounted for just 4.2% of the mobile handsets shipped in the third quarter of 2011, but the company still managed to rake in more than half of the industry’s profits. Among the eight top cell phone vendors in the world, Canaccord Genuity analyst Mike Walkley said Apple accounted for 52% of total operating income between them. The figure is down from 57% in the second quarter. Samsung accounted for 29% of profit among top vendors, up from 18% in the June quarter, and HTC accounted for 9% of total operating income. RIM’s value share slid to 7% from 11% in the prior quarter, and Nokia dipped three points to 4%. Read on for more.

When you look at the landscape for Android devices you’ll instantly notice choices with QWERTY keyboards are very few and far between. Samsung is hoping to corner in on some those wanting a keyboard device and the Samsung Galaxy S Glide is their latest effort. With a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 1.2GHz processor and an 8MP camera on the back all powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread they have my interest. The Samsung Galaxy S Glide doesn’t have any price points slated as of yet but it is expected on Rogers in time for holiday shopping.

Sitting up nights worried that Samsung might hop on the webOS bandwagon and ditch Android? There’s about as much chance of that happening as there is of people properly capitalizing webOS. Samsung Electronics Co. CEO Choi Gee Sung apparently said as much this week at IFA, telling reporters “It’s not right that acquiring an operating system is becoming a fashion.” The Korean manufacturer had been named as a possible licensee of webOS since late June — long before HP officially started the knife downward.

The IFA trade show in Berlin kicks off on September 1st and Samsung has already made it known that it will have a big presence there. We’ve heard that it will announce the Samsung GALAXY Tab 7.7, the Wave 3, and the GALAXY Note but now Sammyhub suggests there could be more in store. Samsung could be preparing to take the wraps off of an upgraded GALAXY S II smartphone that could be the world’s first 4G LTE/WCDMA/GSM handset. The phone may also sport a faster 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera, a 1,850 mAh battery and a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display. The rumor of NFC support definitely has us wondering if this will launch in the United States as the Android Ice Cream Sandwich-packing Nexus Prime, which is rumored to hit Verizon as a 4G LTE phone.
