Gameloft has released NFL Pro 2012 to the Android Market, latest in a series of big releases from Gameloft, following Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation.

As you can expect from the title, NFL Pro 2012 is a football game. With this game, Gameloft is testing their freemium model. The game itself is free, but you can purchase advanced plays and strategies once inside the game. If you don’t feel like paying, you can unlock them by winning challenges.

No doubt about it, Football is back in full swing. Last week the NFL released its official app for tablets and now DirecTV has gone ahead and launched its NFL Sunday Ticket app for Honeycomb tablets. With it, you can stream any NFL Sunday Ticket game in HD plus, you also have access to the Red Zone channel.

The NFL season finally starts tonight (see our Essential Apps for the 2011 season), and the league has released a Honeycomb version of its official app, NFL’11.

With the app, you can access video on demand from the NFL Network, read news from around the league or filtered by team, follow live games and check stats. Gamecenter looks particularly good on the larger screen and will be essential for fans who can’t watch or want to follow multiple games at once.

ESPN has released its official fantasy football app in the Android Market. This is good timing with the NFL season right around the corner. With the ESPN Fantasy Football 2011 app, Android users can manage their fantasy teams on-the-go, working to win that championship. With their fantasy baseball app, ESPN released a free and a paid version for $4.99. This time around, however, there is only a free version, which should make the millions of fantasy football players very happy.

If you’re an NFL fan, you know the name Fred Taylor, the hard nosed running back who played most of his career for the Jacksonville Jaguars. His son, Kelvin Taylor, is now a high school football player who is looking to follow in his father’s footsteps. If you’re a fan of the Taylors or just want to track a good young football player’s progress, Kelvin now has a free app that is currently exclusive to the Android platform.
