
Although the rumblings of a forth coming update for the Motorola Xoom have been out there for a few days now, it’s never actually been announced by Verizon in any sort of manner. Unless of course, you consider posting up the .pdf with the change log a quite unveiling. While we still don’t have a date for when it’s to be release — it’s coming at some point so we’ll just have to wait it out. In the meantime, the changes are listed below:

IDC and Appcelerator have released the findings of their survey of nearly 2,800 developers concerning interest in working on various mobile platforms. Unsurprisingly, Android and Apple’s iOS were well ahead of all others. Android phones had 85 percent and Android tablets saw 71 percent of developers being “very interested” in developing for each platform. iOS was still king by a slight margin with 91 percent for the iPhone and 86 percent for the iPad. Windows Phone 7 grabbed the number five spot at just 29 percent, barely beating out BlackBerry at 27 percent.

Now that we’ve got a proper native Google Docs Android app, it’s time to take it for a spin. Here’s the thing: It’s a native app, all right. But if you’re looking for an experience that’s far and away better than editing Google Docs on the mobile site, you’re going to come away disappointed. It definitely borrows from the mobile side of things.

Adding to the series of Pure Widgets, Android developer Francois Deslandes has released Pure News to the Android Market after plenty of beta testing. Pure News is a scrollable widget that works in combination with many of the launchers that are available and allows for creation of a customizable, scrollable news widget through Google Reader. If you’re also lucky enough to own a Motorola Xoom you’ll find that Pure News is supported and all of the customizable options that are made for smaller devices will also run on the Xoom such as skinning, update options and cache operations.

Google has introduced a new monthly report to give developers on the Android Market more information about users of their paid applications. The reports will contain information from each purchase, but will not contain and data that could be used to individually identify users. Instead, basics like what device was used and what currency the purchase was made in will be recorded.

Finally, have a date for the Sprint Nexus S 4G, folks. You’ve got a couple weeks to go, but it’ll finally be available May 8. For those new to the game, it’s Sprint’s version of the latest “pure Google” phone. No carrier customizations, no bloatware, just pure, unadulterated Android 2.3 Gingerbread on a 4-inch screen powered by a 1GHz Hummingbird processor. Plus you’ve got NFC capability, which is nice.
