Android Market

We see Google working hard to provide better support for Android developers, and that’s a great thing.  We want developers for our platform of choice to be well taken care of so it’s worth learning to code for Android and releasing great applications.  Google’s not perfect in this regard, but they keep improving, and that’s the only way to make it better.  But el Goog needs to start focusing a little more on user support.

Kaspersky Mobile Security Lite now available on the Android Market

Android Central

You see stories everywhere saying how insecure and malware ridden Android is, most of which are just sensationalism and FUD.  The fact is that Android is very much like Windows, where developers (and unsavory types) can write software that you install without it being poured over and approved.  This means some of it will be malware — them’s the breaks and there’s not much that can be done about it.  Paranoid users will just not install any third party applications, savvy users will research every piece of code they install, and normal users can use a mobile security app like Kaspersky Lab’s latest offering, Mobile Security Lite.

Google says ‘Holo’ theme required by vendors that want Android Market access in Android 4.0

One of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich’s most noticeable new features is the “Holo” theme, a set of UI widgets and design elements baked right into the operating system that give it a unique look. The Holo theme also provides a set of visual elements that help developers to create apps and widgets that will have a unified look and feel. Google is so proud of this new theme that the company has made the inclusion of an unmodified Holo theme a compatibility requirement for vendors that want access to the Android Market on their devices. Google is looking to give Android a more unified look, while still supporting manufacturer skins and helping more devices update more quickly. Themes such as Samsung’s TouchWiz, HTC’s Sense UI and Motorola’s MOTOBLUR interface can still be included on devices, however these themes cannot alter default widgets or other elements as much as they do now.
