Motorola RAZR and Samsung Galaxy S Glide possibly coming to Rogers next week

Rogers phones

If the internal procured by MobileSyrup are correct, Rogers subscribers will have a pair of hot new phones to check out next week — the Galaxy S Glide is slated for a Nov. 3 launch, and the MotoRAZR shows up the next day on Nov. 4.  The Glide packs a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, a 1.2 GHz processor, and a full sliding qwerty keyboard, and our Canadian office (hey Chris!) is itching to have a play with it.  The RAZR is super thin (7.1mm), has a 1.2GHz dual-core OMAP, 4.3-inch AMOLED, and the Rogers version may be bootloader unlockable direct from Motorola.  They both look like real winners, and should see lots of fans on both sides of the 49th parallel.

Sprint HTC EVO Design 4G hands-on

We just got our hands on an HTC EVO Design 4G review unit from Sprint — the latest member of Sprint’s EVO family of Android smartphones — and we were instantly reminded of the HTC Incredible on Verizon Wireless upon opening the box. Though the EVO Design 4G lacks an AMOLED display and is noticeably longer, the resemblance is unmistakable. The phone is a bit fat for a device that doesn’t offer a full QWERTY keyboard though, and we can’t figure out why it’s so chunky. In any case, it certainly feels very solid, no doubt thanks to the metal that hugs the back of the phone and runs around its entire body. The soft rubber areas on the back of the EVO Design 4G also provide good grip. Check out our hands-on photo gallery below for images and hit the break for more.

First pics of Ice Cream Sandwich leaked, running on Nexus S

Ice Cream Sandwich

The first photos of a phone running Ice Cream Sandwich have been leaked out, and we get to see a little bit of the UI running on a Samsung Nexus S (T-Mobile USA).  Visually, things look a bit different, with a less AMOLED-friendly blue color scheme and a revamped launcher and app drawer.  A little back story goes along with this from the fellow who leaked it out — expect a native panorama mode for the camera (finally), and an all-new look to the GMail app. The OS will now have Google Shopper integrated, and NFC-enabled devices will be able to utilize those features, and after it launches on the next Nexus device, it’s expected to roll out for the Nexus S.

LG Optimus Sol leaked, AMOLED display, 1GHz CPU and Gingerbread on board

LG Optimus Sol

The fellas over the the German site BestBoyZ have got their hands on an upcoming LG phone dubbed the Optimus Sol (E730).  We don’t know a whole lot about this one just yet, but it should hit Vodaphone in Europe eventually, and come in two colors — black or silver.  On the specs side, it’s running Android 2.3.3 on a 1GHz CPU, with LG’s very own 3.8 inch AMOLED display.  Top it all off with LG’s Optimus UI (we’ve seen that in action on the Optimus Black and the Optimus 3D) on top of Gingerbread, and you have what looks to be a very nice piece of gear.  After the break you can watch a video hands-on with the LG Optimus Sol — it’s in German but you’ll get the gist of it by watching.  Also hit the source link for a couple more pics.

Sprint Nexus S 4G hands-on!

Sure we’ve had some up close and personal time with the Nexus S 4G before, but now we can finally spend some quality one-on-one time with it as we compose our full review. So far we’re impressed with the speed at which we can zip around Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread), and we still love the contoured glass display. We’ve definitely been spoiled using the Super AMOLED Plus screens on the Samsung DROID Charge and the Samsung Infuse 4G, but our Nexus S 4G unit’s AMOLED display has a noticeable yellow tint that would bother us even if we hadn’t been using Samsung’s newer screens. Some users reported yellow discoloration on the original Nexus S after applying the Gingerbread update, so we’re hoping this could be a software fix or something that’s only limited to our phone. We’ll be working on a review over the next few days, but in the meantime be sure to check out our hands-on photo gallery.

Editorial: It’s time to stop the 4G smoke in our eyes

 Samsung Infuse 4G

You would think maybe AT&T might have learned something through osmosis, through the months and months and millions and millions of dollars of highly successful advertisements Apple has run promoting the iPhone. They’ve pulled at our heartstrings. They’ve played off our emotions. And they’ve been very, very good at it.
