Dunno how or why these rumors get started, but let’s squash ‘em right now. Yes, the U.S. version of the ASUS EeePad Transformer — which goes on sale here in the states tomorrow — has GPS. We’ve used it. It works. And we went so far as to mention in our full review a week ago. And in the specs list.
And here’s the official word from ASUS:
The Transformer has built-in GPS hardware, however like all WiFi based GPS devices you need to login and allow the application (let’s say Google Navigation or Maps) to pinpoint your location and load any maps not already available, after that the unit will work as a navigation device until you power down regardless of connection. Once powered down, you will need reestablish the connection so the device can pinpoint your new location. Or you can just tether to your phone or other device via WiFi or Bluetooth for a persistent connection.
Repeat: The ASUS EeePad Transformer has GPS. And it works just fine. Carry on.
